Hello! My name is Dr. Sinead Cowins. I am a Pre-Licensed Professional and Doctor of Psychology based out of New York City . Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, I may be open to conducting virtual therapy sessions, please reach out if you’re interested.
As a therapist, my goal is to help you achieve your best self. It is my purpose to guide you through investigating your wants and needs, the thoughts that trouble you, and the life experiences that have impacted you. With a compassionate, gentle, and sincere style, I will individualize each treatment to the needs of my clients.
I specialize in helping individuals, couples, and groups of people of Black and African American ethnic backgrouund and/or those of Muslim faith deal with depression, anxiety, and coping skills. I am also trained to help adults, elders (65+), those diagnosed with mood disorders and/or personality disorders, cancer patients, and single mothers.
Utilizing a strength-based approach I can aid my clients with a wide range of difficulties, including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief and loss, unresolved emotional issues, racial identity, the mind-body connection, self-esteem, self-empowerment, grief, sleep and insomnia, stress, and creating meaning and purpose in life.
A few therapies I utilize in my practice include: Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Family Systems, Mindfulness-Based (MBCT), Motivational Interviewing, and Positive Psychology.

We handle your mental health insurance electronically and file your claims for free. We also track the status of your claims and ensure they are processed correctly so you don’t have to worry about paperwork or making frustrating phone calls.
We work with your therapist to obtain all the information needed to file your claims. Then we file them electronically each week.
You only need to make sure we have your most updated insurance information. You don’t need to do anything else!
Nirvana has a free tool called the Peace of Mind Coverage Calculator, which estimates your reimbursement amount at the start of the calendar year, when your deductible has been met, and when your out-of-pocket maximum has been reached. You only need to enter the name of the therapist you’d like to see, along with your name, date of birth, and insurance information.
Once you have met your deductible, your reimbursement will be mailed to you about 4-6 weeks from the date of your first eligible claim. In some cases, this process can take as long as 90 days.
Your reimbursement will be mailed to the address on file with your therapist and your insurer. We recommend verifying your address directly with your insurer.
You will receive your reimbursement by check. Some insurers combine payments for multiple sessions and others send one check per session.
Yes! We offer a free product called the Client Portal, which allows you to do exactly that. You may be invited by your therapist, but you can independently register here. With the client portal, you can view the exact status of your claims and reimbursements.
