Hello! My name is Shannon Gunter, and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker based out of New York City. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, I am offering both in-person and virtual therapy sessions.
Everyone has a story to tell, but sometimes our own story can feel completely written and narrated out of our control, leading us to feel overwhelmed or helpless. My job is to empower you to put yourself back into the driver’s seat of your own life and own your unique story. Whether you are struggling with addiction, trauma, low self-worth, attachment issues, anxiety, or depression, I want you to know that therapy can help transform pain into growth and fulfillment. Healing is both uncomfortable and worth it.
I specialize in helping individuals, couples, and groups deal with addiction, coping skills, and alcohol use. I’m also trained to help teens and adults with anxiety, mood disorders, codependency, depression, domestic violence, drug abuse, life transitions, self esteem, self-harming, stress, and trauma and PTSD.
I am a humanistic therapist specializing in working with pre-teens, adolescents, and adults. My approach is empathetic and mindful. I cater my therapeutic process to each individual utilizing a mix of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Gottman Method (for couples).
Together we can non-judgmentally explore how the past affects your present functioning while engaging in healthier coping skills to set you up for future success. Whether you are brand new to therapy or re-engaging in the process, you are taking a brave step to seek help.
It is hard to find a therapist who is a good match for you, which is why I am offering a free 60-minute initial session. Contact me today! For insurance plans, out-of-network benefits are accepted with claims filed weekly on the client's behalf, and reimbursements are sent directly to the client.
Before your therapy visit, check your coverage with our Peace of Mind Calculator, which estimates how much you'll be reimbursed once you hit your deductible or out-of-pocket max.
Remember superbills, those long invoices you got from your therapist? How about claim forms? You don’t need either of those. We’ll handle your claims electronically and file them for free.
Check the status of your claims with our free Client Portal, which gives you a real-time window into the reimbursement process so you don’t have to worry if the check is in the mail.
We handle your mental health insurance electronically and file your claims for free. We also track the status of your claims and ensure they are processed correctly so you don’t have to worry about paperwork or making frustrating phone calls.
We work with your therapist to obtain all the information needed to file your claims. Then we file them electronically each week.
You only need to make sure we have your most updated insurance information. You don’t need to do anything else!
Nirvana has a free tool called the Peace of Mind Coverage Calculator, which estimates your reimbursement amount at the start of the calendar year, when your deductible has been met, and when your out-of-pocket maximum has been reached. You only need to enter the name of the therapist you’d like to see, along with your name, date of birth, and insurance information.
Once you have met your deductible, your reimbursement will be mailed to you about 4-6 weeks from the date of your first eligible claim. In some cases, this process can take as long as 90 days.
Your reimbursement will be mailed to the address on file with your therapist and your insurer. We recommend verifying your address directly with your insurer.
You will receive your reimbursement by check. Some insurers combine payments for multiple sessions and others send one check per session.
Yes! We offer a free product called the Client Portal, which allows you to do exactly that. You may be invited by your therapist, but you can independently register here. With the client portal, you can view the exact status of your claims and reimbursements.
We’re glad to answer any questions you have. Email us at email@example.com and someone from our Help Desk will reach out to you.
