Hello! My name is Shama Goklani, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based out of New York City. I have a Masters in General Psychology and a Masters in Social Work. During this difficult time I am offering video sessions for clients who are distancing or quarantined.
I work with men, women, and couples over 18 years of age. No matter what your reason is for seeking therapy, you deserve someone to witness your truth without reaction. You might be unsure whether you’re justified in being in therapy or tell yourself that things aren’t really that bad and that you’re okay. But allowing someone to just be there with you creates the space to look at your expectations, thoughts, and feelings, and see what you want to do with them. It's valuable for someone to be part of your journey to help you explore what your narrative is and how it is affected by patterns and dynamics that affect all of us.
My approach to therapy is to get to know you, the client, first in order to hear your narrative and help identify themes that pop up and contribute to how you think, feel, behave, and interact today. I use an eclectic approach, which means I draw from multiple modalities to tailor the treatment to you and what you specifically need.
As a first generation South Asian female, I’ve had to identify my own boundaries, learning to differentiate myself culturally and gender-wise. Through my personal and professional experiences, I’ve learned that it can be hard to get unstuck or feel connected when our own experiences get shut down—through our work, we'll figure out how to move forward.

We work with your therapist to obtain all the information needed to file your claims. Then we file them electronically each week.
You only need to make sure we have your most updated insurance information. You don’t need to do anything else!
Nirvana has a free tool called the Peace of Mind Coverage Calculator, which estimates your reimbursement amount at the start of the calendar year, when your deductible has been met, and when your out-of-pocket maximum has been reached. You only need to enter the name of the therapist you’d like to see, along with your name, date of birth, and insurance information.
Once you have met your deductible, your reimbursement will be mailed to you about 4-6 weeks from the date of your first eligible claim. In some cases, this process can take as long as 90 days.
Your reimbursement will be mailed to the address on file with your therapist and your insurer. We recommend verifying your address directly with your insurer.
You will receive your reimbursement by check. Some insurers combine payments for multiple sessions and others send one check per session.
Yes! We offer a free product called the Client Portal, which allows you to do exactly that. You may be invited by your therapist, but you can independently register here. With the client portal, you can view the exact status of your claims and reimbursements.
