Madhuri Jha

Hello! My name is Dr. Lucy Bichsel, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based out of New York City. I’ve been in practice for 7 Years, and received my Masters in Public Health from New York University. Currently, I am offering both in-person and virtual therapy sessions.

We live in a complex world, and the journey to finding oneself while experiencing adversity can be very difficult. Many people come to therapy with the hope that they will find a way to learn how to navigate these challenges. As a clinician, I believe that humans all possess an inherent resilience that can guide us through adverse experiences. I specialize in trauma-informed practice, and I utilize an evidence-based, person-centered, and socially conscious approach to psychotherapy that helps my clients learn ways to activate this existing resiliency.

I am also qualified to work with individuals, couples, and families dealing with anxiety, depression, adoption, codependency, domestic abuse, grief, immigration, life transitions, medication management, multicultural environmental systems, oppositional defiance, psychosis and racial identity. I can conduct therapy sessions in English, Spanish, and Hindi.

My work places a keen focus on the connection between our emotional wellness and our response to stress tolerance. I apply critical race and intersectional theory lenses to my practice. I incorporate various modalities into my trauma-informed practice to best meet the individual needs of all of my clients.

I aim to foster a therapeutic space that is safe enough to discuss all facets of how our identity is shaped, inclusive of race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, and the expression of oppression and privilege. I will respect and incorporate your value systems and what is important to your sense of overall wellness into our work together.

If you are interested in working together please email me to schedule a free 15 minute consultation so we can see if we are a good fit for each other. Costs for each therapy session are on a sliding scale ranging from $175 - $250.

What can Nirvana do for me?

We handle your mental health insurance electronically and file your claims for free. We also track the status of your claims and ensure they are processed correctly so you don’t have to worry about paperwork or making frustrating phone calls.

How does Nirvana’s mental health billing service work?

We work with your therapist to obtain all the information needed to file your claims. Then we file them electronically each week.

What do I need to do for Nirvana’s service to work for me?

You only need to make sure we have your  most updated insurance information. You don’t need to do anything else!

Can I check how much I will be reimbursed for therapy?

Nirvana has a free tool called the Peace of Mind Coverage Calculator, which estimates your reimbursement amount at the start of the calendar year, when your deductible has been met, and when your out-of-pocket maximum has been reached. You only need to enter the name of the therapist you’d like to see, along with your name, date of birth, and insurance information.

Once I start therapy, when will I be reimbursed?

Once you have met your deductible, your reimbursement will be mailed to you about 4-6 weeks from the date of your first eligible claim. In some cases, this process can take as long as 90 days.

Where will my reimbursement be sent?

Your reimbursement will be mailed to the address on file with your therapist and your insurer. We recommend verifying your address directly with your insurer.

How will I receive my reimbursement?

You will receive your reimbursement by check. Some insurers combine payments for multiple sessions and others send one check per session.

Can I track the progress of my claims as you process them?

Yes! We offer a free product called the Client Portal, which allows you to do exactly that. You may be invited by your therapist, but you can independently register here. With the client portal, you can view the exact status of your claims and reimbursements.

I have a general question. Can I contact you?

We’re glad to answer any questions you have. Email us at and someone from our Help Desk will reach out to you.
