Kathryn Grooms

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 20 years of experience helping people manage the effects of trauma, substance abuse, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, sexuality, and gender. I'm certified in the practice of EMDR and Gestalt Therapy; am a certified Daring Way™ Facilitator; and, am a Harm Reduction practitioner.

I have always been passionate about helping people. I consider it an honor and privilege to help every client navigate their own unique journey of self-discovery and emotional healing. My experience and passion for social justice and service to others is reflected in the team I've brought together at Steady NYC. Using their skilled guidance and professional training, each member of my team is dedicated to supporting and empowering every client as they move through the exciting and often challenging process of change and growth.

A lifelong athlete, I often apply sports metaphors to my practice as a way of inspiring clients to overcome challenges. I am an avid Muay Thai kickboxer and runner who enjoys being outside as often as possible and I recently completed the New York City Marathon. I'm also a forever-learning parent, a grateful wife, and the proud caregiver of my recently adopted pitbull rescue.

At SteadyNYC we believe that we all have the capacity to grow, change and heal. We are a trauma-informed and transformation-minded psychotherapy practice in the Flatiron District. We welcome all of you into your journey of self-discovery. We support you to explore your emotional experience; your thoughts and your behaviors that are holding you back from living the life you desire. Our therapists collaborate with you to identify the change(s) you are seeking and empower you with self-awareness, self-compassion and emotional tools to obtain a more fulfilling life experience.

We honor that entering therapy and engaging in the process of self-reflection for most individuals can be scary. We believe it is our responsibility to create a safe space for people to facilitate a deeper relationship with themselves, and we feel honored to participate in the process of healing and growth.

What can Nirvana do for me?

We handle your mental health insurance electronically and file your claims for free. We also track the status of your claims and ensure they are processed correctly so you don’t have to worry about paperwork or making frustrating phone calls.

How does Nirvana’s mental health billing service work?

We work with your therapist to obtain all the information needed to file your claims. Then we file them electronically each week.

What do I need to do for Nirvana’s service to work for me?

You only need to make sure we have your  most updated insurance information. You don’t need to do anything else!

Can I check how much I will be reimbursed for therapy?

Nirvana has a free tool called the Peace of Mind Coverage Calculator, which estimates your reimbursement amount at the start of the calendar year, when your deductible has been met, and when your out-of-pocket maximum has been reached. You only need to enter the name of the therapist you’d like to see, along with your name, date of birth, and insurance information.

Once I start therapy, when will I be reimbursed?

Once you have met your deductible, your reimbursement will be mailed to you about 4-6 weeks from the date of your first eligible claim. In some cases, this process can take as long as 90 days.

Where will my reimbursement be sent?

Your reimbursement will be mailed to the address on file with your therapist and your insurer. We recommend verifying your address directly with your insurer.

How will I receive my reimbursement?

You will receive your reimbursement by check. Some insurers combine payments for multiple sessions and others send one check per session.

Can I track the progress of my claims as you process them?

Yes! We offer a free product called the Client Portal, which allows you to do exactly that. You may be invited by your therapist, but you can independently register here. With the client portal, you can view the exact status of your claims and reimbursements.

I have a general question. Can I contact you?

We’re glad to answer any questions you have. Email us at help@meetnirvana.com and someone from our Help Desk will reach out to you.
