Helen Kalanithi

LMFT, PhD, MPH

Hello! My name is Helen Kalanithi. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based out of San Francisco, and a Palo Alto University alumni. I also received my PHD in Epidemiology & Public Health from Yale University.

I help high-achieving sensitive people from immigrant and other diverse backgrounds connect more to their authentic selves and thrive. You are a high performer---maybe even the go-to person for other people. Perhaps you identify as an introvert, empath/HSP, creative, changemaker, or healer. You feel deeply, and are concerned about others. Outwardly, you’ve held it together, worked hard to keep others happy. But inside, you're exhausted, frustrated with yourself and others, feeling unseen. You don’t have to do this work alone, amidst the existential grief of the pandemic and persisting inequalities. I'm here for you. I can relate.

I have experience working with adults and elders (65+) of Asian and other racial or ethnic background, as well as members of the LGBTQ+ community. Together, we can bring relief to your stress from early life, other people, unjust systems-- and now, the pandemic, the collective losses, the unrest. Using Brainspotting, mindfulness and somatic, integrative approaches, we can help you connect to your grounded deeper self, and shift into a life that feels more authentic, connected, confident, even joyful.

If you're looking for a professional or therapist of color who is caring, nonjudgmental, present, and intelligent to have your back, I'm here for you. “Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” – Howard Thurman, educator, philosopher, theologian, and civil rights leader.

If you are interested in working together please email me to schedule a free 15 Minute consultation to see if we are a good fit. Each therapy session costs $275, and can be paid with American Express, Discover, Health Savings Account, Mastercard, or Visa.

FAQs

What can Nirvana do for me?

We handle your mental health insurance electronically and file your claims for free. We also track the status of your claims and ensure they are processed correctly so you don’t have to worry about paperwork or making frustrating phone calls.

How does Nirvana’s mental health billing service work?

We work with your therapist to obtain all the information needed to file your claims. Then we file them electronically each week.

What do I need to do for Nirvana’s service to work for me?

You only need to make sure we have your  most updated insurance information. You don’t need to do anything else!

Can I check how much I will be reimbursed for therapy?

Nirvana has a free tool called the Peace of Mind Coverage Calculator, which estimates your reimbursement amount at the start of the calendar year, when your deductible has been met, and when your out-of-pocket maximum has been reached. You only need to enter the name of the therapist you’d like to see, along with your name, date of birth, and insurance information.

Once I start therapy, when will I be reimbursed?

Once you have met your deductible, your reimbursement will be mailed to you about 4-6 weeks from the date of your first eligible claim. In some cases, this process can take as long as 90 days.

Where will my reimbursement be sent?

Your reimbursement will be mailed to the address on file with your therapist and your insurer. We recommend verifying your address directly with your insurer.

How will I receive my reimbursement?

You will receive your reimbursement by check. Some insurers combine payments for multiple sessions and others send one check per session.

Can I track the progress of my claims as you process them?

Yes! We offer a free product called the Client Portal, which allows you to do exactly that. You may be invited by your therapist, but you can independently register here. With the client portal, you can view the exact status of your claims and reimbursements.

I have a general question. Can I contact you?

We’re glad to answer any questions you have. Email us at help@meetnirvana.com and someone from our Help Desk will reach out to you.
