Hi! My name is Dr. Charity Wijetunga and I am a clinical psychologist who provides psychotherapy and assessment services to individuals across all ages. I earned my undergraduate degree in psychology from Boston University. I then earned my JD from Fordham University School of Law. Thereafter, I worked as a court attorney, drafting judicial decisions in a variety of civil matters, including child custody and matrimonial cases. After this period of my life I went back to Fordham to earn my PhD in clinical psychology. I completed my pre-doctoral internship training with Mt. Sinai Services at Elmhurst Hospital Center.
Throughout my extensive training, I have worked with individuals experiencing a broad range of challenges. These can include but in no way are limited to: adjustment difficulties to serious and persistent mental illness, in college counseling, inpatient and outpatient hospital, and forensic settings. I feel that the variety of my scope is a unique lens that I have which better allows me to adapt to each individual when in a session.
At Soffer & Associates, I currently co-direct the Psychological Assessment Service, provide psychotherapy, and supervise trainees in both psychotherapy and assessment. My approach to psychotherapy is flexible and integrative, incorporating both relational psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral techniques. Above all, I prioritize the establishment of an authentic, empathic therapeutic relationship and believe in its potential to help people as a tool in order for them to better understand themselves, their experiences, and their relationships. I also use more structured approaches when necessary to help people cope with distressing thoughts and emotions and shift repetitive cycles that keep them feeling stuck. My approach to psychological assessment is similarly individualized and grounded in research, incorporating evidence-based assessment tools and techniques tailored to the client's needs. I have expertise in cognitive, personality/psychodiagnostic, and forensic assessment.

Nirvana has a free tool called the Peace of Mind Coverage Calculator, which estimates your reimbursement amount at the start of the calendar year, when your deductible has been met, and when your out-of-pocket maximum has been reached. You only need to enter the name of the therapist you’d like to see, along with your name, date of birth, and insurance information.
Once you have met your deductible, your reimbursement will be mailed to you about 4-6 weeks from the date of your first eligible claim. In some cases, this process can take as long as 90 days.
Your reimbursement will be mailed to the address on file with your therapist and your insurer. We recommend verifying your address directly with your insurer.
You will receive your reimbursement by check. Some insurers combine payments for multiple sessions and others send one check per session.
Yes! We offer a free product called the Client Portal, which allows you to do exactly that. You may be invited by your therapist, but you can independently register here. With the client portal, you can view the exact status of your claims and reimbursements.
